My pot has cancer

Finally my pot is out of the kiln and ready for it't grand debut...
Can you see its tumors?
Its covered in cancerous tumors!
The pot did great for the first firing, no problems!
But then, the second firing, not so much.
The explaination I was given was the clay recipe did not like the high firing.
Oh well.
Apparently I am being given a consolation prize, and I hope you can help me pick.
My teacher friend feels really bad (although I told her, its the nature of the beast, sometimes things just don't turn out as we quilters know). So here are my choices:

Vase 1:

Vase 2:

Bowl 1:

I do have a preference, but I thought I would put it out to you to help decide.
What are your thoughts?

Zakka Style Sew Along

So that really cute book that came out in December by Rashida Coleman-Hale called Zakka Style?

Well, there's going to be a sew along on Flikr with various fabulous bloggers taking one project a week. Needless to say, I don't come anywhere close to the talent these ladies have in their pinkie fingers, but I thought I would challenge myself to follow along.

The sew along starts Monday, April 2, with the first project in the book and will continue through Monday, September 10, with a new project introduced each Monday.
Each blogger will sew a different project and will be sharing their finished project and inspiration with you. Here's the line up of who's who and who's doing what:
You should really pick up a copy of the book to participate. It's available from Amazon and many other booksellers! My local library has it (wahoo for local libraries!), but there is quite a reserve list and, of course, you will need the book for the whole summer to follow along.
We will see how good I am about staying caught up and posting my weekly projects. It doesn't look like any project will take more than an afternoon or evening to complete, its just finding those afernoons and evenings!
Let me know your thoughts... are you going to take up the challenge and participate or watch from the sidelines?

Tuesday's Truth

Hiking 12 miles at a 3 mile per hour pace will leave you very stiff and sore the next day. Oww.

Getting out while I can

Today was the first official day of my spring break (the weekend doesn't really count, we get those every week). And it was one of the few days its not supposed to rain. So whats a gal to do but convince her government man hiking buddy to call in sick to the government and go hiking! The fact that I had to set my alarm and get up before daylight didn't exactly inspire me, but it was worth it.

Water, water everywhere!
Looking for a great hike with beautiful waterfalls?
Look no further!
This was less than a mile into the hike, and it just continued to be pretty.

Here I am in the middle of a stream we had to cross. One of dozens it seemed.
All the rain we've had really filled the creeks and streams up.

We were often climbing over boulders and rock strewn knobs.
It really upped the challenge part of the hike.
Our topographical map showed some 800' climbs.
Who needs to do aerobics or jazzercise?

One of the last little waterfalls we stopped at. That drop was 8 or so feet and the channel
was about 5 feet across.

It was such a pretty spot we hiked back to it after lunch (having already hiked 11miles)
to stick our tired feet in the water while we had a beer.
Oh, my tired feet.
We had a hard time putting our shoes back on.

The park map says you should take about 9 hours 45 minute to hike the 11 miles.
We did it in 4 hours.
Needless to say, I pace too fast.
It's really my government man hiking buddy's fault.
He always lets me go first.
I will give him credit though.
He managed to pick off 3 ticks from himself,
and I didn't have any!

Tuesday's Truth

If we call a unseasonably warm few days in October "Indian Summer", what do we call 80 degree weather in March??

Pouch Swaperooo

My fabulouos Modern Quilt Guild is at it again!
We are swapping pouches.
I think I may have posted on this earlier, but I finally got motivated
(translation, the swap is just a few days away)
and made the pouch I wanted to swap.

Its called a Humbug bag and so fun to make! The swanky shape is
unusual and fun and I made the whole thing from one square of fabric.
I just layered two fat quarters together and quilted them
(great practive for my new all over ripple quilting!) together.
The perfect size for taking sewing along in the car.

I had some of my fabric/quilt sandwich left over and couldn't resist
making a matching coin purse using the reverse side.
Oops! The birds are upside down! Oh well.
Cute nevertheless.

So here they are together. My swap partner will be surprised to find
the little coin purse bonus inside the humbug bag.
Hope she likes them both!

Tuesday's Truth

This is my 100th post!

The weather is warming up and I saw the first crocuses blooming today. Spring is in the air, I wish I was in Paris for the La Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie, the big bread competition and conference. Check it out at http://www.kingarthurflour.com/blog/.
